Breast Cancer Action Quebec (BCAQ) is a feminist, independent, and committed organization working on breast cancer prevention, environmental justice, popular education, and rights advocacy. We adopt a critical and intersectional approach to health, recognizing the impact of environments, social inequalities, and systems of oppression on breast cancer and the health of women and marginalized people. As many of our dedicated board members complete their mandates, we are urgently seeking new voices to join our Board of Directors.  

Role of the Board of Directors  

• Shape Our Future: Contribute to defining the strategic directions of the organization.  

• Uphold Our Values: Ensure we operate ethically and effectively, always aligned with our commitment to justice and prevention.   

• Empower Our Team: Support the team in achieving our mission. 

Expected commitment: Approximately 7 meetings per year (usually virtually), occasional involvement in committees. Board terms are 3 years, renewable. No prior governance experience is required – we will support you!  

Your Unique Perspective is Our Strength  

We believe that a truly effective board is built on diverse voices, perspectives and life experiences. If you care deeply about preventing breast cancer, environmental justice, and challenging inequalities, we want to hear from you. Your lived experience, unique understanding and dedication are invaluable. 

We specifically encourage applications from people who may not think their “profile” fits traditional board roles, including:  

• Individuals with lived experience of breast cancer (personally or through a loved one)   

• People from underrepresented or marginalized communities   

• Individuals engaged in community, feminist, environmental, health, or social justice sectors   

While experience in areas like governance, finance, legal, communications, health, or environmental work can be helpful, it is not a requirement. Experiential knowledge, activism, community engagement, and a deep commitment to our shared values are highly valued.
